Sociability Events

Code of Conduct

Purpose

Our events provide a space for Sociability users to meet other members of our community and/or other members of their local area. In hosting in-person events, our core aims include:

  • to facilitate the meeting of like-minded people;

  • to explore local venues that are accessible to our users; and

  • to learn about Sociability and our work, including how to use our app and to add information to our crowd-sourced database; and

  • to share hints, tips and personal experiences between members of the disabled community, in a safe and welcoming space.

Expectations

We expect all attendees of our events to be open to meeting new people and making new connections by getting to know other attendees.

Everyone is welcome at a Sociability event, whether disabled or non-disabled, companion or ally.

Relatedly, whilst disability may be a common identity and/or interest amongst attendees, we know that everyone will have a unique experience and set of beliefs about disability. Accordingly, we ask all attendees to be mindful of this when interacting with other attendees, and expect everyone to respect the identities, preferences, and boundaries of their fellow attendees. Everyone should feel confident to communicate their boundaries and ask all attendees to listen and respect these at all times.

Ultimately, at every Sociability event, we seek to create an environment in which everyone feels safe, comfortable and welcomed throughout.

Finally, where possible, we ask all attendees to download or update the Sociability app so as to let us know how we can better support our users!

Health and Safety

  • We ask everyone to behave responsibility and look after the safety of themselves and others around them

  • Please be aware of your belongings and devices at all times.

  • In the case of any incidents or emergencies, please first ensure your own safety. Contact emergency services or local authorities where necessary.

  • Attendees who are feeling unwell or displaying flu-like symptoms should refrain from attending the event.

  • At present, we invite attendees to do what is most comfortable for them regarding wearing masks and hand sanitising.

  • Facemasks and hand sanitizer will be available at all Sociability events. Please let a member of staff know if you require these.

If there is anything during the mapping day that you think will give rise to any particular risks to your health or safety, please let us know so that we can help make sure that you can participate safely and comfortably.

The Sociability team are on hand both before and on the day to discuss any concerns attendees may have - please contact Jennie by emailing community@sociability.app with any questions you may have.
